Healing Rooted in Faith: Steps to Grow
Jun 09, 2024For a survivor of domestic abuse, healing can feel like a daunting mountain to climb. It can be helpful to have a community and guide to help you along the way.
The Oasis Bible Study books were designed to do just that! You'll find online support classes to give you community and the books themselves will provide you with a guide.
If you are wondering what that looks like...you'll find four crucial pillars to build your strength and find peace in Book 2.
- Safety: The Foundation of Healing
Imagine yourself walking through a dark forest, searching for the way out. Safety is like clearing a path ahead. It removes the immediate obstacles and dangers, allowing you to navigate the healing journey with more clarity and focus. However, as begin to do so, your abuser will begin to feel threatened and upset as you become more educated about domestic abuse, understand what the Scriptures say, and gain confidence and emotional strength.
Even if you don't think you need it, please take a look at our safety plan and think through the steps: find the downloadable plan and tips here >>>
Being safe, physically and emotionally, allows you to begin the process of recovery. God offers complete security, reminding us He is a "refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).
- Faith: Your Constant Companion
When you are traveling through the forest, you can take a guiding light beside you. That's the power of faith. Knowing you are not alone in your struggle brings immense comfort. Turn to God, your ever-present companion. Pour out your pain, your anger, and your fears. He offers unwavering grace and understanding (Hebrews 4:15-16).
- God's Truth: A Light in the Darkness
Abuse thrives in darkness, manipulating and twisting reality. God's truth serves as a beacon, illuminating the path to freedom. The scriptures remind us of our inherent worth and dignity. Verses like John 16:13 ("But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth") empower you to reclaim your voice and break free from the abuser's lies.
- God's Love: Mending Your Broken Heart
The experience of abuse can leave your heart fractured. But God's love is the ultimate balm, a love that heals the deepest wounds. Embrace the truth that you are His beloved daughter, cherished and precious (Isaiah 43:4). As you allow His love to flow through you, healing begins paving the way for a brighter future.
Healing is a journey, not a destination. But with each step, you reclaim your strength, discover your resilience, and find the peace you deserve. Remember, God walks beside you every step of the way.
